The premise of this project is to maintain the essence of a Mediterranean house, respecting the character and materials, and appreciating the architectural details. With the genuine character of the construction as a base, we can adapt the purpose of the traditional space to modern usage by highlighting the naked wood, stone walls and original roof tiles to accentuate the building's original identity.
In this sort of renovation project with an emphasis on the restoration of an existing structure, the main challenge is to achieve the most impact with minimal intervention, by respecting and making the most of what we already have: how we exploit the space, light and materials, and manipulate the contrast and the harmony between old and new, to achieve a space that is both elegant and functional.
The finished result is an elegant, comfortable and subtle space bathed in warm lighting that highlights features such as the wooden beams and the open roof area, to conjure a feeling of familiarity that is inspired by traditional Mediterranean architecture worn by the hands of time.
